We are off to a great start!

We have been off to a great start this school year.  There are many wonderful activities going on in the 5th grade. Here are just a few....

We are busy studying colonial life at the colonial stations in social studies!  We are learning about their style of clothing, daily chores, the jobs of the times, as well as the economics of the colonial regions. Students rotate around the room in small groups and complete several activities at each station and learn more about how the colonists live. Each station includes reading passages, dry-erase learning activities, as well as colonial craft projects.

Brady, Bryce, and Fernando learn about daily life in colonial times.

Darrell works hard on his colonial project!

In addition (hee hee!), we have been working very hard in math.  We are reviewing place value of whole numbers and decimals, rounding decimals and whole numbers to a designated place value, reviewing standard form, word form, and expanded form of numbers, as well as addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals.  We have a test coming up next week!

We played decimal bingo to learn how to describe decimal place values.

Jonathan and Libby play decimal bingo:

Kuinton and Mikel work hard with their team in Math Jeopardy!  Students worked in teams to add and subtract large numbers as a review.  Synergy was really at work here, and students did a great job!

Also, band and orchestra is now rolling!  Most students have their instruments and should be bringing them to school on practice days.  Band students only need their instruments on Tuesdays and orchestra has now been moved to Wednesdays.  Please make sure your child brings their instrument!

Check back soon for more updates!
